Clean Boats Clean Waters
Clean Boats, Clean Waters (CBCW) is a program where boats and trailers are inspected for invasive species and educational materials are distributed to boaters at boat landings.
Since 2010 ERCLA has received grants from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) to help fund this program, which offers University of Wisconsin students the ability to do the inspections within the University's Summer Interns program.
The funding pays for 200 hours for the students to perform the boat inspections at multiple boat landings on the Eagle River Chain of Lakes. The Unified Lower Eagle River Chain of Lakes Commission provides funding for an additional 400 hours of boat inspections on Eagle, Yellow Birch and Catfish lakes. Watercraft inspection is an opportunity to take a front line defense against the spread of aquatic invasive species.
